FAQ
  • MAJI is the official name given to the WYD volunteers of the Archdiocese of Gwangju. It is a compound word formed from the first syllables of the Korean words majung, meaning “to welcome,” and jigi, meaning “companion” or “keeper.” MAJI carries the meaning of a friend who warmly welcomes international pilgrims visiting Gwangju and accompanies them throughout their journey.
  • Pilgrims will stay with Catholic host families in parishes within the Archdiocese of Gwangju, sharing daily life and fellowship with the local community. Host family assignments will be arranged in consideration of the number of participants, gender, language, and the circumstances of each parish.
  • The Archdiocese of Gwangju is preparing homestay accommodations so that international young pilgrims may stay with local Catholic families.
  • After March 2027, the number of participants will be confirmed gradually by country and parish. Confirmed details will be shared with each delegation and parish.
  • In principle, international pilgrims are expected to apply through their national, diocesan, organizational, or group delegation.
  • Applications for international pilgrims should be submitted through each diocese, religious congregation, or delegation. Please complete the application through the registration link. Further details will be provided by email at a later date.

  • The program will include welcoming events at parishes, homestay gatherings, cultural experiences, prayer and Mass, and opportunities for exchange with young people from the Archdiocese of Gwangju. For more detailed information, please contact us.
